First Evangelical Free Church of Benson has a paid staff of two; a part-time custodian and a pastor.

Responsibilities

  • The pastor assures everything that needs to get done gets done.
  • The pastor typically preaches the Sunday morning sermon.
  • The pastor also establishes the order of worship for Sunday worship.
  • The pastor is accountable to the Elder Team and submits a report at the annual meeting.
  • The pastor establishes the agenda for the monthly Elder Team meeting.
  • Because First Evangelical Free Church of Benson is part of an aging community, visitation to shut-ins and the hospitalized is a high priority.

  • Visitors and non-attendees are contacted by the pastor.
  • Presently the pastor teaches the Sunday morning Bible Instruction Class to youth grades 7-12 and assists with the Wednesday evening AWANA kids outreach and Youth Group during the school year, if needed.
  • The pastor attends other meetings, as necessary.
Besides the monthly Elder Team meeting, most meetings are held quarterly. The pastor is part of the regional EFCA pastor’s meeting once a month. The pastor also has attended the local ministerium meetings when they are held, as well as district conferences of the EFCA.
  • The pastor should establish and make the church aware of his normal office hours.
For the benefit of the pastor and the church, the pastor should strive to operate his ministry from the church office, not his home. The pastor should not have ministry obligations more than four evenings a week. See Constitution and Bylaws, Article 2-Government, Section A-Staff.
