Job Description


To provide kingdom leadership to the members of this church enabling them to focus on the Great Commission and equipping them to carry out the five functions of the New Testament church: Evangelism, Discipleship, Ministry, Fellowship and Worship.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • The senior pastor shall be one who trusts Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord, and who meets the qualifications for overseers and elders as delineated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9
  • He must clearly communicate God's Word, not be ashamed of the gospel and be a person of integrity whose behavior is consistent with his beliefs
  • He must be willing and able to take initiative
  • He must be able to set and achieve goals and objectives and help manage a budget
  • He must be competent at public speaking and a capable teacher in large groups, small groups and one to one
  • Bachelor’s degree with Master of Divinity preferred
  • Ordained in the EFCA or willing to be ordained within three years of hire


The senior pastor shall be accountable to the congregation and elder board. All paid staff work alongside and with the senior pastor.


  1. The senior pastor shall provide a pulpit ministry that incorporates the expounding of the Scriptures in all doctrine and presentation of a clear message of salvation; exhorting the church body to act upon the Scripture teaching in their lives and participate in the ministries of the church
  2. The senior pastor shall be responsible for preparing for and conducting wedding and funeral services that are held at the church, for administering the ordinances of communion and baptism at the regularly scheduled services and special services of the church
  3. The senior pastor shall be available to provide biblical counseling and provide referrals if and when necessary
  4. The senior pastor shall perform the duties set forth in the constitution
  5. The senior pastor shall be responsible for the adult education and discipleship ministries of the church, working with the elder board to recruit and train leaders for ministries to adults
  6. The senior pastor shall be responsible for overseeing the provision of Christian educational classes, for all ages being conducted as a regular part of the church's ministry and membership classes
  7. The senior pastor shall develop an annual ministry plan, in cooperation with the elder board and approved by that board, with quantifiable and measurable goals and objectives, which will form the basis for: monthly progress reports; making any necessary modifications, deletions or additions to that plan; and accountability
  8. The senior pastor shall be responsible for the shepherd care of the congregation, including: coordinating visitation of sick and shut-ins; dealing with church discipline issues; counseling and encouraging individual spiritual matters; prayer ministry, in cooperation with the elder board
  9. The senior pastor shall meet regularly with the ministry staff, and also with the elder board at scheduled meetings
  10. The senior pastor shall provide guidance to the worship team in the planning of the regular and special church services
  11. The senior pastor is encouraged to attend seminars and conferences, providing these activities do not hinder the ministry in the local congregation. He is free to accept leadership roles in the EFCA, the NCD Conference and other evangelical organizations as approved by the elder board
  12. In cooperation with the elder board, the senior pastor shall be responsible for developing and maintaining a leadership recruitment and development plan for the church
  13. In cooperation with the elder board, the senior pastor shall be responsible for leadership of the church's evangelical outreach to the community; he shall also maintain appropriate relationships with local clergy, community leaders and educational leaders and cooperate where appropriate in joint ministry and community service activities.
  14. The senior pastor shall ensure the church is actively involved in the support of local missions
  15. The senior pastor serves as an ex-officio member of all boards and committees
  16. The senior pastor shall provide a monthly report to the elder board
  17. The senior pastor is expected to be a servant leader. The senior pastor is expected to live an exemplary life modeling the call, character and competencies of becoming a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The senior pastor will demonstrate a servant spirit as a growing disciple of Jesus Christ.
