The Executive Pastor at Edgewood will effectively manage both the operational and ministry staff within the organization. The church employs 10 full-time and over 20 part-time staff. From a ministry perspective, the Executive Pastor will direct staff, implement vision and evaluate the results across the landscape of Edgewood. The team is doing well and continually nurturing a healthy staff culture is important. They enjoy group fun, quarterly all-staff gatherings and weekly meetings for the campuses. Fellowship among the campus pastors, who relate closely with the Executive Pastor, is strong and contributes to a noticeable sense of unity. There are no glaring deficiencies on this staff; however, several younger staff members, either in age or experience, will benefit from continued mentoring.
Operationally, the Executive Pastor will help to manage a $2.1-million budget and oversee the financial, technical, facilities, legal and marketing aspects of the congregation. The church has no debt on either the Waupun or Fond du Lac properties, but recently completed a successful capital campaign to fund the purchase and renovation of their new $1.25 million new Beaver Dam location, raising $1.2 million in the fall of 2023 to be given over the next three years. The recent move to Planning Center software has not been without its challenges and the incoming Executive Pastor would ideally bring experience in this platform to help guide its effective use.
While some multisite models practice a franchise model in which everything is the same from campus to campus, at Edgewood there is a shared agreement amongst leadership that each campus should be encouraged to lean into the unique climate and needs of their specific location. The incoming Executive Pastor will find ways to support this piece of Edgewood DNA while ensuring the branding and operational boundaries of the church as a whole are consistently upheld.
Most importantly, this individual will be a gospel-oriented pastor who resonates with the vision to see lives transformed by Christ. As a leader who is called to lead from the second chair, the Executive Pastor will work in tandem with Senior Pastor Roger Knowles to support and shepherd the continued growth and development of Edgewood. In partnership with the Senior Pastor and elders, there is an opportunity to organize the role and the staff to best accomplish these things. The Executive Pastor will have an opportunity to preach as much as 12 times per year, if desire and gifting are present.
While staying attuned to the Spirit of God and in close connection to Pastor Roger, the Executive Pastor must be endowed with a keen organizational IQ. They will understand how to staff for growth, craft strategic plans in a dynamic, multi-site reality, invest in the development of people and ministries and foster healthy two-way communication loops through the organization. He will plan well, follow through, communicate effectively and exercise wise financial discernment.
The ideal candidate for this position will spend time with Jesus, not from a vocational standpoint but for personal growth, realizing they are a Christ-follower first and a pastor second. They will be a clear communicator verbally, in writing and from the stage. They will bring an energetic and winsome spirit to the role while also possessing a grounding presence in the day-to-day work of the church that inspires confidence from others. The right Executive Pastor will intentionally craft environments where people are developed spiritually and professionally, and where collaboration and partnership can prosper.
