About this Church

Mission Statement

Being transformed through life with Jesus. We do that by learning from Jesus, practicing His way, and being healed by his love and power—all by the Holy Spirit, in community and for the good of others.

Our Church

Refuge Church is located on the westside of Albuquerque, New Mexico and was planted the Fall of 2015. We are a worshiping community of about 300 people and are associated with the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA). At Refuge, we are working to create spaces where people are welcomed no matter their questions, struggles or doubts. We desire to be people who are being transformed through life with Jesus—learning from Jesus, practicing His way and being healed by His love and power—by the Spirit, in community, and for the good of others.

Youth Group
Middle and High Schoolers come together for a weekly gathering to build friendships and explore what it means to follow Jesus. Youth group at Refuge entails games, worship, a message and small group discussion.

At the beginning of every summer, all of our Refuge Youth students, including incoming 6th graders, head to Lone Tree Ranch for a week of craziness. Games, events, alpine tower, horseback riding and such plus daily gatherings, teaching and worship. Join the youth email list to be the first to hear about next summer’s camp.

Kids programming available during the services, ages 0 - 5th grade.

Small Groups
We think church happens around two tables: the communion table on Sundays and the family table during the week.

Our dream is that everyone who calls Refuge home could be fully a part of a community where they can love and be loved, share their gifts and doubts, and everything else that's a part of following Jesus.

Local Community and the World

Shine: We have a developing, long-term partnership with our nearby elementary school, Marie Hughes. Our Shine volunteers care for and support teachers, students and families in a variety of ways throughout the year. Watch the training course and get involved here.
Aspire Academy: Located in the Bugesera Region of Rwanda, Aspire Academy aims to end generational poverty through wholistic education. We deeply believe in the values of Aspire and leaders, Ivan and Jordan Mbaraga. This partnership includes relationship, financial support and partnership / mutual learning trips.

The church is a family that does its best to ensure no one remains in need. Every dollar of this fund goes to pay for things like bills and emergency maintenance.

Our Congregation

• Congregants appreciate the diversity of Refuge Church as exhibited through the shared pulpit, female voices and different perspectives expressed and broad representation of ages and genders throughout the church
• Congregants value the stimulating, thoughtful and intellectual teaching, inclusion of creative liturgy and presentation of alternative views with unity of thought on fundamentals
• Congregants are grateful for the welcoming atmosphere presenting a sense of community and fellowship, relational leadership that supports and participates in church events, and “I believe, help my unbelief," invitation to be vulnerable and prioritization of the marginalized appeal
• Congregants are thankful for the thoughtful approach to local and global missions and partnerships
• Congregants are pleased Refuge Church has established robust kids and youth programs, worship led by talented musicians and many hands at work serving the body
• Congregants recognize and embrace the value in focusing on the relationship with Christ rather than focusing on growing the congregation
• Congregants see opportunities for Refuge Church to become more multi-cultural, establish and expand existing kids, youth, women, men and college ministries, and create additional liturgical space to allow for corporate confession and participatory prayer
