Oxboro’s Worship Philosophy

Our goal with worship ministry is to lift up the name of Jesus, that He might draw all of us closer to Him. Whether in music, scripture, prayers or the sacraments of baptism and communion, each act of worship fulfills that singular purpose of drawing the body of Oxboro closer to Christ. Our worship teams include all volunteer musicians and vocalists who have a passion for leading our congregation in structured times of praise and worship. Our worship services are constructed to be a blend of traditional and contemporary worship styles that reflect the tapestry of our members and attenders.

Position Profile

The worship director candidate is someone with a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. This person is sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, and is prayerful and passionate about leading others to Christ through worship. Candidate is a skilled musician who is organized and prepared for each service while willing to be flexible to unanticipated changes.

Job Responsibilities and Expectations

The worship director is part of the leadership team of Oxboro and reports to the senior pastor and elders. This position does not require specific EFCA credentials or ordination.

● Plan and lead worship services (one service each Sunday morning, and special services such as Christmas Eve, Good Friday and Easter) in collaboration with the senior pastor and Arts & Worship Committee. Services should be planned at least two weeks in advance, utilizing clear and timely communication with the volunteers and office staff.
● Intentionally incorporate songs with lyrics that align with the EFCA Statement of Faith.
● Coordinate song selection and flow with the senior pastor, based on the preaching topic for the service. Flow includes musical transitions, scripture readings, prayer or other expressions that bring the focus from one song or element to the next.
● Organize and lead rehearsals for worship and audio/video teams on Sunday mornings before the service. Monitor vocal performance of teams for blend and provide coaching as needed.
● Coordinate logistics for each service with the sound booth volunteers, regarding sound, video and lyrical displays to ensure unity in all aspects of the service.
● Lead the music team 46 out of 52 Sundays of the year. Plan and have in place the necessary technical and administrative tasks prior to any scheduled absences.
● Periodically collaborate with Bells, Choir, Youth and Children’s ministry programs.
● Recruit and train new talent for the music ministry as needed.
● Support, encourage and pray for worship team members.
● Ensure that prayer plays a central role in music rehearsals, Sunday services and in personal spiritual life.
● Meet weekly with senior pastor.
● Attend monthly staff meetings.
● Report to the elders and congregation at quarterly business meetings.
● Present a written ministry report at the annual business meeting.
● Participate actively in the life of the church outside of staff responsibilities.


The following qualifications are expected of the successful candidate:
● Believes in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and exhibits an exemplary Christian walk, including the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
● Follows and demonstrates a scripture-based definition of worship.
● Is a skilled musician with a working knowledge of music theory/chord charts.
● Possesses strong vocal abilities and instrumental skills on piano and/or guitar.
● Agrees with the EFCA Statement of Faith and works to become a member at Oxboro Church.
● Demonstrates humility, honesty, trustworthiness, patience, teachability, adaptability and organizational skills.
● Works well with others and is supportive of the volunteers, members and staff at Oxboro.
● Creatively incorporates various musical styles in each service, including hymns and modern praise music.


The position is 12-15 hours a week with up to six Sunday absences allowed per year. Salary is based on experience and qualifications.
