Job Description

The senior pastor is responsible to the church for proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He shall serve as the chief undershepherd and overseer of this local church, feeding, leading and nurturing the sheep. His main responsibilities will be to communicate God’s Word, minister to spiritual needs and provide biblical leadership to the church. The overriding ministry of the senior pastor will be to help the church grow in new believers and to develop mature disciples in Christ.

Qualifications

  1. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in ministry-related field; background and experience considered
  2. Committed to EFCA Statement of Faith and licensed in EFCA denomination or eligible to be licensed, and meeting the qualifications as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:1-10

Responsibilities/Duties

Primary Ministry responsibilities:

  1. Serve as the preaching/teaching pastor for Sunday worship services and other special events as needed
  2. Oversee programs in discipleship and ministry training; coordinate with other church leaders
  3. Motivate, equip and nurture the people of the church; lead the members in the knowledge and use of spiritual gifts for the benefit of the body of Christ
  4. Officiate at weddings and funerals; perform communion and baptism
  5. Provide leadership and vision for the church, including future church planning and developing strategic plans, relying on the Holy Spirit for guidance and timing
  6. Provide premarital counseling, counseling regarding salvation and spiritual issues and other counseling for church members as time permits; facilitate visitation to the sick and infirm
  7. Participate in evangelism efforts through preaching and other community outreach efforts; act as an ambassador of Grayling E-Free church to the community
  8. Oversee church discipline

Duties pertaining to administration and staff:

  1. Conduct meetings for staff (regularly) and volunteers (as needed)
  2. Conduct staff performance reviews (to provide encouragement as well as performance assessment); prepare staff reviews for the elder board as requested
  3. Evaluate the need for and oversee staff training and development
  4. Evaluate the need for and assist in developing an operations manual with policies and procedures helpful to the church
  5. Attend elder board meetings

Duties pertaining to other church functions:

  1. Regularly monitor church function according to Natural Church Development (NCD) guidelines for a healthy church and provide feedback to the elders and congregation
  2. Assist the elders in strategies to improve in areas of need in relation to the NCD guidelines
  3. Advise committees or teams in their needs as mutually agreed upon with the chairperson

Appointment/Length of Service

The pastor will be called for an indefinite term as outlined in the by-laws of the church constitution
