Senior Pastor

PURPOSE: Working in harmony with the elders and according to his gifting, the senior pastor has been called to shepherd the flock and equip the saints for works of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-16).

PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

ELDER
• Serve as a permanent elder and a leader of leaders.
• Provide training and teaching to the elders.
• Along with the elder chair, serve as the primary spokesperson for the church.
• Leading membership classes alongside the elders.
• Promote and be involved in NCD programs and ministerial support where possible (NCD conferences, local NCD ministerial group, etc.).

PASTOR

SHEPHERDING
• Provide general pastoral care which includes but is not limited to individual and marital counseling, conflict resolution, mentoring and visiting the sick.
• Work to develop and foster a church-wide culture that moves believers to deeper levels of spiritual maturity.
• Invest intentional time in prayer with and for the GCC body weekly.
• Provide oversight of the ordinances of baptism and communion.
• Perform weddings (including pre-marital counseling) and funerals as needed.
• Participate in a life group.

EQUIPPING

• Serve as the primary preacher while training others (elders and non-elders) for the task, for their edification and the benefit of the body.
• Preach expository biblical sermons designed to teach all hearers how to properly handle (interpret), obey and apply the Word of God.
• Work with the elders and ministry leaders to plan and carry out all services.
• Strongly communicate and promote the church’s mission and core values.
• Assists in raising up leaders from within the body of Grace. This would include:
  • Recognizing emerging leaders, fostering competencies and character into them.
  • Discipling and testing them for faithfulness to God's ministry.
  • Entrusting and commending men and women to leadership roles.
• Meet with ministry leaders to advise, guide and encourage as needed.
• Help develop a culture of compassion and concern for the lost, both locally and globally.

ADMINISTRATIVE/OTHER
• Utilize basic organizational skills to manage people, time and resources well while providing for the needs of the church.
• Identify administrative details to be either done or delegated.
