Job Description
As staff of Olivet, we are joining Jesus in His mission to rescue the lost and transform hearts and lives to His likeness.
Compensation: Full-time salaried with benefits
Reporting to: The elders
PURPOSE
The Senior Pastor is the chief undershepherd of the church whose primary responsibility is to feed and lead God’s flock by example as well as by instruction, so that all are being brought to maturity as disciples of Jesus Christ.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
● Lead by example
● Regularly spend time with God in personal Bible study and prayer
● Make God the center of the home, discipling his family
● Embody love in interactions in his home, the church and outside the church
● Seek wise counsel and accountability
● Live a life of humility, purity and integrity
● Preaching that will edify, challenge and facilitate growth
● Prepare and deliver original sermons based on his own study of Scripture
● Respect intellectual property, citing references and sources
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
● Communicate God’s Word through expository and topical preaching
● Maintain the centrality of the gospel to transform lives
● Foster growth and maturity in His flock, challenge the church to change
● Guard the quality of biblical teaching and doctrine in partnership with the elders
● Promote unity within the body
● Cultivate and model community outreach and disciplemaking relationships
● Encourage and equip the church in a lifestyle of evangelism
● Lead training of elders, staff and other leaders
● Identify, encourage and develop potential leaders
● Supervise and provide direction to full and part-time staff
● Provide yearly performance reviews for full and part-time staff
● Lead in the development, communication and review of the vision of the church
● Attend board meetings and congregational meetings
● Maintain regular office schedule
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
● Provide general oversight of day-to-day operations of the church
● Oversee shepherding and congregational care (visitation, calls, notes)
● Officiate at weddings, funerals, baptisms and communion
● Counsel those in need of biblical direction
● Serve as ex-officio member of committees as needed
● Collaborate with elder chairman to develop meeting agendas
● Monitor progress of various ministries, encourage ministry leaders
● Encourage continued vibrant mission emphasis
● Delegate responsibilities to qualified members
● Other responsibilities as assigned by the elders
QUALIFICATIONS
Spiritual Expectations:
● Strong, personal relationship with Jesus
● Consistent lifestyle and personal example of following Christ
● Healthy family relationships
● Lead his family in consistent attendance and participation in the life of Olivet
● Agreement with Olivet’s statement of faith, mission & vision and willing to sign affirmation form
Education/Experience:
● MDiv preferred, or MA, or equivalent experience
● 5-years senior pastor experience preferred
Skills and Abilities:
● Interpersonal skills a must
● Committed to prayer
● Vulnerability, transparency, authenticity
