General Description:
The Pastor of Families and Students will be responsible to care for the flock of Lakewood and shepherd the people of God to love the person of God and to love their neighbor. This pastor will lead in an effort to equip the saints for the work of the ministry in Lakewood’s Student’s and Children’s ministries and their families. He will lead and serve in such a way that supports, upholds and communicates our core values, mission and vision.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
Pastoral Roles
- Regular study and prayer in God’s Word
- Prayerful teaching and leading from God’s Word
- Oversee the flock, including LSM, Children and Families
- Equip the saints for the work of the ministry
- Model godly Christian living and love for Christ
- Serve alongside a team in our vision for Lakewood
- Commit to caring (spiritually and physically) for self and family
Pastoral Duties
- Coordinate and oversee all ministry efforts from birth through graduation
- Work with Children and LSM staff to manage and guide ministry budgets
- Foster a heart of love and discipleship at Lakewood for children and youth
- Recruit, develop and train those serving in these ministries
- Participate in pastoral care of congregation and staff
- Maintain current safety policies for Lakewood children/youth
- Have the willingness to be a generalist and serve where there is a need
General Expectations:
- Cling to Christ in a genuine relationship with Him as a faithful follower
- Present a clear and credible profession of faith that is lived out
- Be a humble man
- If married, be a faithful and supportive husband. If a father, be faithful and nurturing
- Committed to true discipleship and friendship in the congregation
- A man sensitive to the Spirit’s leading and the necessity of prayer
- Competent and joyful in faithfully teaching
- Agrees and heartily endorses the EFCA Statement of Faith
- Holds a Bachelor's degree and/or theological training
Relationships:
- He will be accountable to the senior pastor and elder team
- He will be a member of the elder team
- He will be a teammate and partner to Lakewood staff
- He will be accountable to the congregation and a faithful member himself
- He will attend denominational conferences and conventions for enrichment
- He will pursue licensing and ordination with the EFCA
First Year Expectations:
- Demonstrate a team building effort and relationship with elders and staff
- Develop a unified vision of discipling birth to graduation
- Give appropriate time to yourself and family
- Serve our people, earn their favor and trust
- Help establish and recruit a strong volunteer culture
- Shepherd our children ministry and LSM staff and volunteers
