Job Description

Purpose:

The Senior Pastor will lead and equip the elders, staff and congregation to fulfill its mission and purpose to worship the Lord (John 4:24) and to make disciples for Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20).

Required Qualifications:

  1. Character: The senior pastor must be a person of irreproachable character (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9) who is sound in faith and doctrine and qualified to teach and preach the Word of God. He must model a growing relationship with God. He must be in full accord with the Statement of Faith and must be willing to perform his duties in accordance with the constitution and by-laws of NLC.

  2. Leadership: Able to discern and communicate a compelling, biblical vision for the church.

  3. Management: Demonstrate ability to recruit, train and equip church staff and volunteers.

  4. Knowledge: Demonstrate desire to be a lifelong learner. Possesses significant knowledge of ministry needs and processes for equipping the church to complete the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) and the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40).

  5. Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree. Ordained in EFCA denomination or willing to seek or transfer to the EFCA.

  6. Followership: Able to submit to the authority of God, the congregation and the elder board and to work as a team player with the pastoral staff. Will become member of NLC.

  7. Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

  8. Able to lift 40 lbs.

Responsibilities:

  1. In conjunction with the elder board, church staff and volunteers, work to develop, guide and manage the ministries of NLC.

  2. Leadership and management of all church staff, including the development of performance plans, the conducting of evaluations and reporting to the elder board.

  3. Plan and conduct the worship services with the Sunday morning experience team so that the truth of the Bible is thoroughly preached and taught.

  4. Establish fellowship with the body that will lead to offering personal guidance and counsel to groups and individuals.

  5. Shall represent NLC outside the church walls. (i.e. denominational functions and community church activities. Maintain ongoing relations with other local Christ centered congregations.)

  6. Will officiate at special services: communion, weddings, funerals, dedications, etc.

Accountability:

  1. Directly responsible to the NLC elder board. Will work with the elder board to develop a personal performance plan with follow-up evaluations.

  2. Member of the elder board.

  3. Will hire / assign the church staff in conjunction with the elder board.

The Senior Pastor at New Life Church will lead a growing community of believers in their pursuit of a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ to fulfill the church’s mission of making disciples. He will serve alongside the pastor of discipleship and worship, pastor of youth and family, director of children’s ministry, elder board, administrative team and multiple volunteer ministry leaders.

On a typical Sunday morning, 350+ people gather to worship the Lord Jesus Christ and gain deeper understanding of the Bible through teaching and expository preaching. Currently, we offer two identical services with Sunday school available for all ages in between. Throughout the week, we continue to serve and grow together through life groups, discipleship groups, young adults, youth and children’s ministry. We also serve our neighbors through special events, services and ministries for all ages.
