Job Description

Position Overview:

The Pastor serves as the spiritual leader of the church, providing Christ-centered guidance and oversight to the congregation and ministry teams. He is responsible for preaching, teaching and shepherding believers, while promoting spiritual growth and practical Christian living in alignment with biblical principles.

Qualifications:

• A man of irreproachable Christian character and reputation, as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and 1 Peter 5:1-3.
• Possesses the spiritual gift of pastor-teacher.
• Demonstrates a commitment to sound doctrine, a deep prayer life and an active walk with Christ.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Spiritual Oversight: Responsible for the overall spiritual guidance of the church, ensuring alignment with biblical teachings and principles.
Preaching & Teaching: Proclaim the Word of God through regular sermons, Bible studies and teaching opportunities, equipping believers for ministry work.
Shepherding: Provide pastoral care and counseling to individuals and families, especially those in need or facing spiritual challenges.
Leadership: Guide church members toward practical Christian living and discipleship, fostering a vibrant and unified church community.
Eldership: Fulfill the duties of an elder, working collaboratively with other church leaders to lead and oversee church matters.

Reporting Structure:

The pastor is accountable to the congregation and collaborates closely with the elders and church leadership to fulfill the mission and vision of the church.

Glenwood Community Church is in Glenwood, Iowa, a small town 30 minutes from the Council Bluffs/Omaha metro area. The church has a congregation of about 60 regular attendees.

Sunday services include worship, fellowship and Bible hour in a blended worship style that incorporates traditional hymns and contemporary music. Other activities include AWANA club, Friday evening dining/fellowship events, bible studies and service projects.

The church building was constructed in 2005 on donated land and is debt-free, with ongoing, fully-funded update projects. The organizational structure includes the church board, Christian education, missions, building and grounds, finance and worship committees.

The church supports eight different missionary organizations and individuals with a broad focus on international, domestic and local missions.
