Communications Coordinator
Job Description
Purpose:
To provide professional, organized and efficient communications leadership for Hope Church.
The Communications Coordinator plays a vital role in sharing clear and compelling messages, as well as promoting events and addressing various communication needs at Hope Church. This person will lead both digital and print communication efforts, ensuring that our messaging is consistent, engaging and tailored to how our church family best receives information.
Working closely with the leadership team at Hope Church, the communications coordinator will help create and execute a strategic communications plan with a heart for storytelling and a thoughtful approach to communicating with people across different backgrounds and demographics.
The communications coordinator should be comfortable collaborating with ministry leaders, proficient in managing websites, social media, email campaigns and print materials, and bring both strategic thinking and an eye for design to the role.
Supervision: Reports to the Pastor of Discipleship & Hospitality.
Working Hours:
This is a part-time hourly position, about 24-28 hours per week, with the potential for a full-time (35-38 hour) position. Most hours will be in office during office hours, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday-Thursday.

Responsibilities
1. Communications (60%)
- Serve as the church’s brand manager, safeguarding and maintaining how the church is portrayed through all communication pieces including print, email, social media, web, video and the mobile app. Ensure each piece is effective and supports the mission of the church. Develop ways to creatively communicate with our congregation and community.
- Work with ministry leaders on a consistent strategy to effectively communicate messages via announcements, displays, postal mail, email and social media.
- Produce newsletters using information requested from ministry leaders and prepare brochures, flyers, etc. upon request.
- Design and oversee the production of the Sunday bulletin, communicating with staff and ministry heads about inserts and announcements.
- Oversee communication on the church website and app, empowering ministry leaders to effectively communicate and update information as needed.
- Maintain a consistent social media presence with posts on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
- Design promotional material for events and ministries as needed.
2. Administration (25%)
- Ensure that weddings and funerals have a church liaison or fill the roll as necessary.
- Produce agenda and minutes for the weekly staff meeting.
- Provide communications assistance to church staff and ministry heads.
- Compile the congregational meeting reports and distribute to church members.
- Oversee building use requests.
- Help facilitate special projects and events, in cooperation with ministry teams.
3. Supervise the Ministry Assistant Receptionist (15%)
- Provide training as needed and support and collaborate on projects.
- Oversee work on the church calendar, bulletin, email communications and database.
- Communicate expectations and follow through on jobs assigned.
- Provide an annual performance review, offering direction and areas of improvement.
- Consider time sheets and time off requests for approval.
4. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must endorse and support the EFCA Statement of Faith.
- Church membership; a member in good standing.
- Must be willing to support and implement the vision and mission of Hope Church.
- Must be willing to participate in a leadership team ministry approach.
- Must be familiar with church culture and operations.
- High School diploma required, and bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Must be a high-capacity, intuitive, resourceful self-starter who has excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrates an attention to detail.
- Must be skilled in project management and problem resolution.
- Must be skilled in graphic design and social media communication.
- Must have comparable work experience; communications and management experience preferred.
- Must demonstrate good leadership, management and people skills; able to handle difficult and emotional situations that may arise.
- Must demonstrate a high level of sensitivity, compassion and confidentiality; able to employ professional and kind communication with a wide variety of people.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires regular standing and walking, and occasional light lifting (<20 pounds).
