Job Description
Position Summary
The Pastor of Discipleship provides vision, leadership and oversight for spiritual formation at River Oaks Church. This role develops systems to guide people from first-time guests to mature disciples, equips leaders for groups and classes, and ensures a clear discipleship pathway is accessible across all services and language groups. The pastor of discipleship builds a culture where every person can grow in Christ, belong in community and serve on mission.

Key Responsibilities
1. Develop and Implement Discipleship Pathway
- Create a clear discipleship strategy that includes next steps for people at every stage of faith.
- Align classes, groups, serving opportunities and events with the church’s mission to go, grow and show.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of discipleship systems and adapt as needed.
2. Lead Life Groups and Classes
- Oversee life groups ministry, recruiting, training and coaching group leaders.
- Launch and multiply groups as the church grows, ensuring both English and Spanish-speaking groups are supported.
- Plan, schedule and teach or coordinate adult classes (e.g., new believer classes, membership, Bible studies).
3. Equip Leaders Across Ministries
- Provide training and support to volunteers and ministry leaders involved in discipleship environments (e.g., groups, studies, serving teams).
- Partner with student and children’s ministries to ensure discipleship strategies are aligned churchwide.
4. Connect and Assimilate Newcomers
- Develop processes to help guests feel welcomed, connect them into groups and invite them into serving opportunities.
- Follow up with new visitors in coordination with hospitality and administrative staff.
5. Teach and Preach as Needed
- Preach in Sunday services as requested by the lead pastor.
- Teach classes or seminars that strengthen discipleship and leadership development.
6. Foster Community and Belonging
- Plan and oversee events or gatherings designed to connect people into community.
- Create opportunities for diverse generations and cultures within River Oaks to build relationships.
7. Monitor and Support Discipleship Health
- Track group participation, engagement metrics and spiritual growth indicators.
- Regularly report discipleship progress to the lead pastor and elders.
Qualifications
- A vibrant growing relationship with Jesus Christ, demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of River Oaks Church and active membership fulfilling all responsibilities expected of members.
- 5+ years of pastoral ministry experience with emphasis on discipleship, groups or adult ministry.
- Proven ability to develop systems for spiritual formation and community building.
- Strong leadership, communication and relational skills.
- Ability to work effectively across cultures and language groups; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies, Ministry, Theology or related field required; seminary education preferred.
- Ordination or willingness to pursue credentialing within EFCA or a compatible evangelical tradition.

Responsabilidades Principales
- Desarrollar e Implementar el Camino de Discipulado
Crear una estrategia clara de discipulado que incluya próximos pasos para personas en cada etapa de su fe.
Alinear clases, grupos, oportunidades de servicio y eventos con la misión de la iglesia: ir, crecer y mostrar.
Evaluar la efectividad de los sistemas de discipulado y adaptarlos según sea necesario. - Liderar Grupos de Vida y Clases
Supervisar el ministerio de Grupos de Vida, reclutando, capacitando y acompañando a los líderes de grupos.
Lanzar y multiplicar grupos conforme crece la iglesia, asegurando que se apoyen tanto grupos en inglés como en español.
Planificar, programar y enseñar o coordinar clases para adultos (por ejemplo: clases para nuevos creyentes, membresía, estudios bíblicos). - Capacitar Líderes en Todos los Ministerios
Proveer entrenamiento y apoyo a voluntarios y líderes ministeriales involucrados en ambientes de discipulado (grupos, estudios, equipos de servicio).
Colaborar con los ministerios de estudiantes y niños para alinear estrategias de discipulado en toda la iglesia. - Conectar e Integrar a los Nuevos Asistentes
Desarrollar procesos que ayuden a los visitantes a sentirse bienvenidos, conectarse a grupos e involucrarse en oportunidades de servicio.
Dar seguimiento a los nuevos asistentes en coordinación con el equipo de hospitalidad y el personal administrativo. - Enseñar y Predicar Según Sea Necesario
Predicar en los servicios dominicales cuando lo solicite el Pastor Principal.
Enseñar clases o seminarios que fortalezcan el discipulado y el desarrollo de liderazgo. - Fomentar Comunidad y Pertenencia
Planificar y supervisar eventos o reuniones diseñadas para conectar a las personas en comunidad.
Crear oportunidades para que diversas generaciones y culturas dentro de River Oaks construyan relaciones. - Monitorear y Apoyar la Salud del Discipulado
Registrar la participación en grupos, métricas de involucramiento e indicadores de crecimiento espiritual.
Reportar regularmente el progreso del discipulado al Pastor Principal y a los ancianos.
Cualificaciones
Tener una relación creciente con Jesucristo y compromiso con la misión y valores de la Iglesia River Oaks.
5+ años de experiencia en ministerio pastoral con énfasis en discipulado, grupos o ministerio de adultos.
Habilidad comprobada para desarrollar sistemas de formación espiritual y construcción de comunidad.
Fuertes habilidades de liderazgo, comunicación y relaciones interpersonales.
Capacidad para trabajar eficazmente entre culturas y grupos lingüísticos; se prefiere el dominio de inglés y español.
Título universitario en Estudios Bíblicos, Ministerio, Teología o campo relacionado requerido; educación en seminario preferida.
Ordenación o disposición para buscar credenciales dentro de EFCA u otra tradición evangélica compatible.

Horario y Expectativas

Disposición para ser flexible con el horario según las necesidades del ministerio.
