Youth Pastor
Job Description
This is a position that involves leading an entire student ministry for fifth through twelfth grade.
Qualifications:
The Director of Youth Ministry will possess a clear calling to minister to youth and a demonstrated passion for helping students grow in their faith. The ideal candidate will have prior experience leading youth ministry in a church or parachurch setting, with proven skill in recruiting, equipping and leading volunteers. Formal ministry training—such as a Bible college degree, seminary coursework or equivalent ministry experience—is preferred. The candidate should demonstrate strong biblical knowledge, sound doctrine and the ability to communicate the gospel effectively to both students and parents. Essential qualities include spiritual maturity, relational warmth, organizational competence and a lifestyle that is above reproach. The director must be a committed follower of Jesus Christ and an active, faithful member of a local church.
Purpose:
The director of youth ministry will lead and guide middle and high school students toward a lifelong love for the gospel. They will help students grow in the knowledge of God, deepen their love for Him and live out their faith in daily life. This role will foster relationships with students, parents and the local community, equipping young people to stand firm in their faith and serve others. The director will create an environment where students feel they belong, are challenged to grow, and are encouraged to live out the gospel with courage.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate all aspects of youth ministry for middle and high school students
- Recruit, train and support a volunteer team to serve in youth ministry
- Select or design biblically faithful curriculum and resources for youth programs, events and classes
- Lead regular gatherings for students that encourage spiritual growth and connection
- Be present and engaged with students during Sunday services and other ministry events
- Build positive, intentional relationships with students and their parents, fostering trust and open communication
- Pray regularly for young people in the church and community
- Integrate students into the wider ministries of the church to encourage intergenerational discipleship
- Participate in staff and leadership meetings
- Live a life above reproach that is worthy of imitation, modeling faithful church membership and a Christ-like lifestyle
Secondary Responsibilities
- Serve as part of the preaching team as assigned
- Assist with Sunday morning ministry needs when necessary, in ways that support the church’s mission without detracting from primary responsibilities
