Job Description

Overview of Position

Summary: The Youth Pastor is a full-time position responsible for overseeing ministry to and making disciples of youth in grades 6–12, partnering with parents and leading volunteers in that endeavor.

Education and Experience

  1. A bachelor’s degree – preferably in Christian ministry or equivalent
  2. At least two years of leading a medium/large youth ministry
  3. A proven record of recruiting, leading, and equipping a team of adult volunteers

Specific Duties

  1. Oversee and lead youth ministry weekly gatherings
    a. Teach age-appropriate Bible-based messages
    b. Equip leaders to lead discussion groups based on the messages
    c. Run games and activities (or equip others to do so) to create a sense of community and belonging
    d. Participate in service projects each semester
    e. Plan youth outreach and fellowship events
    f. Plan for the youth to lead a musical worship set at least once every six weeks
  2. Recruit, train and empower volunteers who will use their gifts to help serve in the weekly meetings and to connect with youth throughout the week. Ensure that all volunteers are properly screened and qualified Lead a youth volunteer meeting at least every eight weeks
  3. Empower students to serve in various ways in the youth group and church
  4. Communicate weekly with and provide discipleship resources for parents and youth
  5. Meet weekly with the pastoral staff for growth, accountability, communication and prayer
  6. Submit a monthly update of ministry goals and tasks
  7. Attend at least one conference/year for personal growth and development
  8. Be diligent to wisely care for himself and his family physically, emotionally and spiritually
  9. Devote 40–50 hours per week to these duties. Exceptions may be made in consultation with the senior pastor.
