Job Description

Position Summary

The Senior Pastor is a man who meets the biblical qualifications of an elder. His primary duties are to preach during worship services, to perform the ordinances regularly, to lead the pastoral staff and together with the elder board, to shepherd the church in fulfilling its mission and vision. This is a full-time position.

Key Responsibilities

1. Preaching & Teaching
● Serve as the primary preacher
● Preach the Word verse by verse through expositional sermons
● Together with the board of elders, ensure that all church teaching is in alignment with our Statement of Faith

2. Leadership and Vision
● Together with the board of elders, set and/or execute the vision and mission of the church
● Promote and model a lifestyle of personal spiritual growth and integrity
● Communicate and promote the church’s mission and core values
● Assist in raising up leaders from within the congregation
● Together with the board of elders, provide oversight in the biblical ordinances (communion and baptism)

3. Pastoral Care/Biblical Counseling
● Conduct weddings, funerals, baptisms and other ceremonies as needed
● Together with the board of elders, visit and care for the sick, elderly and those in need within the church
● Together with the board of elders, provide biblical counseling and support (including pre-marriage counseling) for individuals and families within the church

4. Administration
● Identify administrative tasks which need to be done or delegated and work with the board of elders to accomplish
● Foster a healthy and collaborative environment among church staff, ministry leaders and volunteers
● Lead/manage compensated church staff

5. Community
● Build relationships with other churches and organizations to promote cooperative ministry efforts

Required Qualifications

● Ongoing growth in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and a life above reproach that exemplifies 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9
● Post-graduate degree, such as a Master of Divinity or similar
● Strong understanding of evangelism and discipleship
● Proven initiative and willingness to grow professionally
● A heart for the spiritual formation of those in the congregation
● Trained in expository preaching
● Experience in pastoral/preaching ministry with a proven record of church flourishing
● Affirmation of Community Bible Chapel’s mission, vision and statement of faith

Preferred Qualifications

● Married
● Biblical counseling certification
● 2+ years experience serving on a board of elders

Compensation

Annual compensation starting range of $50,000 - $72,000, in accordance with prior
education and experience appropriate for full time senior pastor position.

● A statement of how you believe the church would benefit from your leadership and your vision for equipping Community Bible Chapel

About this Church

Founded in 1975, Community Bible Chapel is located in Pleasanton, Texas, situated just 40
minutes south of San Antonio off Highway 37 and just over an hour drive to the Texas coast. On
the southern edge of the “Texas Triangle,” which is expected to grow to over 26 million people
by 2035, our growing town offers the perfect blend of rural living and convenient access to urban
amenities.

Community Bible Chapel is a member of the Evangelical Free Church of America
(EFCA). We are a small friendly congregation of about 50 members, with roughly 70 people
attending each week and a desire to grow. We are Bible-focused and made up of both mature
and new believers. Our church government rests with its members, with the executive authority
being invested in the board of elders for spiritual matters and in the board of deacons for
material matters.
