Primary Purpose:

To further the mission of Bergen Park Church by creating environments for spiritual growth in children, developing spiritually healthy families and ensuring alignment with the theology, vision and core values of BPC.

Classification: Regular Employee
Status: Full-Time: 40 hours/week
Wages: $48,000 - 64,000 per year plus benefits
Supervisor: Executive Pastor

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Discipleship

a. Cast vision for the children’s ministry program (ages birth to fifth grade) that aligns with Bergen Park Church’s mission and core values.
b. Oversee and teach meaningful, engaging and biblically sound lessons during Sunday school, DELTA Club and other discipleship opportunities.
c. Provide pastoral care and support for children, families and volunteers.
d. Engage in and contribute to weekly staff meetings, bi-weekly director meetings and other collaborative efforts as requested by church leadership.
e. Required on site hours will include Sundays, Wednesdays and at least one other full weekday to be determined with the executive pastor. On site hours help create community with other staff and church members and provide opportunities to engage with the needs of the church and community.

2. Volunteer Management

a. Recruit, train and schedule volunteers for all children’s ministry programs.
b. Equip volunteers with necessary supplies, curriculum materials and emotional support to ensure successful programming.
c. Select biblically-sound curriculum and ensure alignment of this curriculum to the EFCA Statement of Faith and Bergen Park Church Core Values.

3. Safety and Administration

a. Enforce Bergen Park Church’s Child Protection Policy and work closely with the safety team coordinator and executive pastor to make revisions as needed.
b. Manage bi-annual background checks of all current volunteers and new background checks for all recruited volunteers.
c. Review and modify the annual children’s ministry budget and purchase all supplies and equipment for children’s programming.
d. Maintain attendance records and weekly check-in system.

4. Family and Community Engagement

a. Communicate monthly with children’s ministry families via email.
b. Plan and execute special events; including VBS, fall festival, Christmas pageant and an Easter event in conjunction with other BPC staff members.
c. Coordinate family Sundays and advocate for intergenerational, corporate worship with church leadership.

Supervisory Responsibility:

The children’s ministry director oversees and provides leadership to all volunteer and paid childcare staff, ensuring a safe, effective and ministry-focused environment. In collaboration with the executive pastor, the children’s ministry director will also provide supervision and performance feedback for the assistant children’s ministry director, when applicable.

General Qualifications:

● A personal, active and maturing relationship with Jesus Christ as both Lord and Savior.
● A calling and heart to work with young children and families.
● Agreement with and understanding of the EFCA Statement of Faith.
● Alignment with Bergen Park Church’s mission statement and core values.
● Demonstrates Christ-centered character through integrity, compassion, respect and professionalism in all interactions.
● 1–2 years of experience in children’s ministry, education or a related field preferred.
● Biblical or theological education preferred; degree in elementary education, early childhood development or a related field preferred.
● Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills with the ability to lead volunteers, collaborate with staff and parents and foster effective ministry coordination.
● Self-motivated and able to work independently with initiative, discipline, adaptability and strategic focus.
● Ability to problem-solve, make sound decisions under pressure, and respond to challenges in a Christ-like manner.
● Familiarity with the needs, culture and realities facing children and families today.
● Proficient with computers, including using our volunteer scheduling system, children’s check-in system and Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Sheets, etc.).
● Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
● Physically able to lift 25+ pounds and actively engage with children, including getting up
general expectations:
● A servant attitude towards God, leaders and church staff.
● A desire and ability to work as a team and cooperate with others to meet stated goals.
● Be punctual and attend all required events and activities.
● Follow directions and leadership of direct supervisor and elder team.
● Communicate openly and honestly with supervisor and staff about needs, problems and ideas for improvement.
● Abide by the doctrinal tenets of Bergen Park Church and of the EFCA.
