Job Description

I. DEFINITION

The mission of the children’s ministry is to partner with parents in the spiritual formation of their children and supply ongoing encouragement for them to be the primary developers of their children. The role of the Director of Children’s Ministry is to provide leadership to the children’s ministry through the development of ministry teachers and helpers, using appropriate children’s ministry programs, curricula and activities. The goal of our Kingdom Kid’s children’s ministry is for children to know Jesus as their Savior and be changed by His love so they can share God’s truth with others.

II. QUALIFICATIONS

A. Consistently seek to become more like Jesus and help others to do the same.
B. Display a sound knowledge of Scripture and an effective gift of teaching with an ability to apply Scriptural principles in ministry to individuals and families.
C. Provide visionary and strategic direction that aligns with being internally strong and externally focused.
D. Identify, equip, develop and evaluate teachers for children’s ministry.
E. Possess the spiritual gifts of administration, evangelism and shepherding.
F. Be able to take the initiative to lead and develop people and programs.
G. Ability to motivate people with good communication and organizational skills.
H. Education and experience that is commensurate with the role. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred but a verifiable history of experience working with children in the related field will be considered.

III. RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Leadership and Development of Children’s Ministry (75%)
a. Identify, equip, develop and support leaders and teachers for Kingdom Kid's ministry.
b. Schedule leaders for Kingdom Kid's ministry.
c. Organize and plan training sessions/meetings of Sunday morning leaders and the Awana director, using all available resources.
d. Develop and give oversight to Sunday morning classes, special outreach events and discipleship programs.
e. Mentor leaders, demonstrating how to teach and lead effectively.
f. Pray for children and the ministry and partner with parents as needs arise.
g. Supervise and oversee Awana director as he/she identifies, equips, develops and supports the Awana leaders.

B. Administration of Children’s Ministry (20%)
a. Communicate with leaders and parents providing ministry updates relating to strategy, weekly schedules and upcoming activities while encouraging ministry involvement.
b. Ensure every volunteer has appropriate, current and approved criminal background checks.
c. Approve of all children’s ministries programs, curricula, activities and disbursement of funds for supplies and projects, keeping within the budgeted amount.

IV. ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIPS

The director of children’s ministry will be accountable to and supervised by the executive pastor.

V. EXPECTED OUTCOMES

To bring about a culture of discipleship that produces internally strong children who are externally focused by being filled with and directed by the Holy Spirit.

VI. EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

This is an hourly based position that is paid twice a month. The children’s ministry director will be reimbursed for up to 30 hours a week for Kingdom Kid's and Awana.
