Job Description
Two Rivers Church, Knoxville, Tennessee, is is entering an exciting new chapter! This healthy, multi-site congregation is seeking a Lead Pastor who resonates with the “two rivers” of Word and Spirit to guide them to boldly live out their mission to make gospel-centered, Word-dependent, Spirit-empowered and relationally connected followers of Jesus.
The Candidate:
The incoming lead pastor of Two Rivers will know, love, follow and be transformed by Jesus. He will not only resonate with the two rivers of Word and Spirit, but will participate, champion them and purposefully work to ensure they continue to be upheld and valued. As an experienced leader and pastor, he will combine humble confidence with emotional maturity, relational authenticity and a genuine desire to know and shepherd people across campuses and generations. An engaging, biblically grounded preacher, he will communicate truth with clarity, inspiration and practical application. He will enjoy developing younger pastors and leaders, and will embrace a team teaching model. As a leader of leaders, he will work well with people, building trust, fostering organizational clarity, empowering growth and cultivating a culture of collaboration, multiplication, excellence and joy. Above all, he will be a discerning builder who listens well, honors the church’s heritage, and brings the experience, faith and vision necessary to advance the mission.
The Qualifications:
- A mature, intimate relationship with Jesus and a life marked by prayer and spiritual leadership.
- Alignment with Two Rivers’ mission, vision, core values, doctrine and commitment to Word and Spirit.
- Theological alignment with the EFCA.
- Exceptional biblical preaching, teaching and communication skills.
- High emotional intelligence and organizational leadership ability.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and oversee paid staff.
- Seven to ten years of pastoral leadership in a growing ministry preferred.
- Previous church-planting or multi-site leadership experience preferred but not required.
- Seminary degree preferred.
- Ordination, or willingness to be ordained, required.

They seek a dynamic, energizing Lead Pastor who leads from a deep, authentic relationship with Christ. The right fit is relationally wired and will thrive amid the complexity of a multi-site and multi-generational church. Gifted to lead and collaborate with others, he will works well with elders and staff to unite the congregation around a compelling vision and empower people to find their place in it. From the pulpit, he will teach and lead a teaching team to deliver biblically grounded messages that are infused with depth and practical application. He will love people and challenge them to trust God as they put their faith into action in everyday life. As vision is turned into reality, he will continue to build up the church by strengthening discipleship, developing younger leaders, reaching younger families and generations, and exploring opportunities to advance the Kingdom through future campuses and/or church planting.
