Job Description

Our next pastor will:

  • Perform all of the Scriptural duties of his office and, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, have the freedom of the pulpit. He will prepare and deliver sermons, lead worship services, except when on vacation; provide guidance for the ministries of the church; provide spiritual leadership for the church; and administer the ordinances of the church. Duties may include administrating membership applications; leading discipleship ministries; performing weddings, marriage counseling, funeral services, and baptisms; visiting those with spiritual and physical needs; and reaching out to visitors. Depending upon workload responsibilities, the pastor may receive additional assignments from time to time from the elder board.
  • Be an active member of the elder board and, as needed, be a member of boards, committees, auxiliary bodies and other organizations of the church. The elder board will meet regularly to oversee church business affairs.
  • Present a written report covering his activities at each annual meeting.
  • Be supervised by the Steamboat Bible Church elder board.
  • Be supported by volunteers, including the elder board, worship leader, bookkeeper, Bible study leaders, and kid school/nursery teachers.
  • Be employed as a full-time employee with appropriate vacation, sick leave and holidays.

Our retiring pastor’s salary and housing allowance was approximately $74,000 per year. Since housing costs have increased recently, we expect to pay our next shepherd at least $80,000, inclusive of a housing allowance and dependent upon qualifications.

We meet in a building shared with a Montessori school, and our pastor’s office is also located there. The building is owned by a Christian education foundation and one of our long-time church members is the foundation director. We have been at the same location for about 29 years and expect to remain there for the foreseeable future.

Steamboat Springs is in northwest Colorado, about 150 miles from Denver. It is a town of approximately 14,000 full-time residents, with about 25,000 people living in Routt County. We have a friendly small-town feel, with many of the amenities of a much larger town or city, including a very good healthcare system. The Yampa Valley Regional Airport has direct flights to and from many cities, especially during ski season and the summer.

Our town is very family-oriented, with top-rated schools (public, private and Christian), and an abundance of youth clubs and activities. The area has a rich ranching history, a ski resort and is renowned for quality outdoor activities, such as skiing, biking, hiking, fishing, hunting and camping; and excellent tennis, pickleball, and golf facilities. There is a rich Olympic heritage, mostly in skiing, dating back to 1932 and continuing today. The Colorado Mountain College Steamboat campus provides 2-year and 4-year degrees, classes for those considering college elsewhere and life-enhancing courses for non-traditional students. The arts and theater community is vibrant and we have a concert hall that attracts well-known musicians.

There is a wide variety of housing options available in and around Steamboat Springs. Generally, downtown and near the ski resort base tend to be expensive, but these areas have more options if you are considering renting initially, or purchasing a condo or townhome. Neighborhoods to the west of town (where our church is located) and nearby towns are more affordable, and a reasonable distance from our church. If you would like to explore real estate options more, please email us and we will send an MLS link and the name and contact information of a Christian realtor.

We hope that you will prayerfully consider the position of Solo Pastor at Steamboat Bible Church, and that our community might be the place you are called to help spread God's kingdom. If you have questions, please submit them to Steamboatbiblechurch01!@gmail.com.

If you are interested, please forward your resume, including details about your education, experience and a link to one or more of your sermons to Steamboatbiblechurch01!@gmail.com.

About this Church

We were established in Steamboat Springs in 1992. We have about 20 members, and typically 20-35 attend the Sunday service. Out-of-town visitors attend often, especially during ski season and in the summer. We have a strong love for each other and the community, and would like to grow, one family at a time. Our congregation age varies from young families to retirees. Our members provide long-standing Bible-studies and children’s church. We are a very active group, with skiing, hiking, fishing and camping being popular activities. Long-time annual events include a special Christmas Eve service and a summer campout at Steamboat Lake State Park. Our retiring pastor was here for 14 years, and the pastor preceding him led our church for 17 years.
